O Embodiment of That Supreme Lord! O Consort of Sita! Me, by undergoing suffering at all times due to troubles in the hands of people who are close to me, that I should get angry with You – is it for this that You created me?

2. O Nourisher of Your devotees! Always having excessive craving for wealth due to evilsome desires for house, wife etc., cattle, children etc., that I should be associated with those ’naive’ pretenders – is it for this that You created me?

O Bestower of Enjoyments! O Lord who is easily accessible to those who are dear to You! O Lord who bore the Mandara or Govardhana mountain! O Lord who relieves from the disease called Worldly Existence! O Lord praised by this Tyagaraja! won’t You look at me quickly and with much kindness with Your elongated eyes, O Indweller of the Sastras!

Variations
- 3 vEsa dharula – vEsa dhArula
Commentary
- 1 A parAtpara – the word ‘A ’ translates to ‘That’. Sri Tyagaraja addresses Sri Rama as ‘That’ - Supreme Lord indicated by ‘tat ’ in the mahAvAkya - ‘tat-tvam-asi ’.
- 2 E dOsamu teliyani – In some books, this seems to have been translated as ‘unaware of sins’. In view of the ensuing words ‘vEsa dharula ’ (pretenders), this seems to be a sarcasm about people ‘pretending to be naive’.
- 4 sOga kanulu – equivalent to Sanskrit ‘AyatAkSa ’.
- 5 nannu – the ending word of this caraNa cannot be meaningfully connected to the pallavi.
