Commentary
- In this kriti, Patnam Subrahmanya Iyer describes his beloved Lord Venkateswara as Rama, the crowned Emperor of Ayodhya. Lord Ramachandra incarnated in the lineage of King Raghu (who was the descendant of VisvasvAn , the Sun). The poet describes several of Rama’s heroic deeds including subjugating the arrogance of ParashurAma .
- All the nouns in this song are declined in the vocative case (“O <noun>!”).
- This kriti is one of the most famous in all of carnatic music because of its zesty pace of both the sahityam and the interluding swaras.
