- 1 itara mArga saukhyamu – While Sri Thyagaraja eulogises the path of devotion, he is not ridiculing other paths and says that whether followers of other paths derive happiness or not, is known to themselves only. He wants them to compare with the happiness derived from the path of devotion.
- 2 udduga - The root word is ‘uddi ’ which means ‘duel’.
- 4 jAti hInulu jANalainAru – This probably refers to sage Valmiki.
- 5 pAmu – snake - This probably refers to Kaliya.
- 6 pandi – pig or boar – the reference is not clear. Is he referring to Varaha Avatara?
- 7 gaja – elephant – this probably refers to Gajendra Moksha.
- 8 pizAca – a fiend, ogre, demon, devil, asura, Rakshasa – having fondness for flesh – Probably this refers to Vibhishana.
- 9 pAtaka – sinful – It is not very clear as to whom Sri Thyagaraja refers.
