– According to Books, this word indicates Kovoor. This place (now Kovoor) might have earlier been called ‘gO puraM
’ meaning ‘town of cows’. Over a period of time, this word gOpura might have been corrupted as ‘Kovoor’. Sri thyagaraja might have enquired about the Sthala Purana of the temple and, probably, he might have come across that name. Otherwise, the word ‘gOpuramandu
’ in anupallavi and ‘gOpura nilaya
’ in thrid Charanam do not make much sense.
2rAja rAjuniki
–In the books, this word has been taken to mean ‘Kubera’. Though, it may also be true, there is no direct linkage to the word to indicate this meaning. As per Monier’s Sanskrit Dictionary, mahArAja
among others, also means ‘Kubera’. May be, this has been modified by Sri Thyagaraja as ‘rAja rAja
’.
