Regarding (Krishna’s) words to be gospel, all these damsels consented (to what He said).

siggu cEtanandunuJciri

They took off all their sarees and, with much shyness, placed them (sarees) therein (in the hole).

anduna niluvaka pOyenu mEnu
landariki taDuvanAyenu³

But, these (sarees) did not stay there (they were washed off); therefore, everybody got wet.

kanukondurO-yani⁴ saraguna pAliNDla
karamula mUya⁵ marugunA (vEda)

Fearing that someone might see them (in this state), they, immediately, covered their breasts with their hands; but could these be hidden like that?

Would they cover their modesty, or would they save their lives?

The mouths of the damsels started drying up; the water started rising fast (in the boat).

The garments vanished; the faces of the damsels shrank.

The damsels cried pitiably and hugged the Lotus-eyed one.

kAntuDentO muddu kAraga (vEda)

Seeing the collyrium of the girls’ eyes flow as tears, the Lord relished much.

ramaNula madamella jarigenu tyAga-
rAja nutuni madi karagenu (vEda)

All the arrogance of the girls dissolved and the heart of the one praised by Thyagaraja melted. \t
